What does 6-7 mean?

Nothing. It means nothing, and that is not us dodging the question. The nothing is the whole joke. 6-7 is what happens when a sound gets popular enough that it stops needing content, like a laugh track that outlived its show.
The sound has a traceable origin even if the meaning doesn’t. It comes from “Doot Doot (6 7),” a late-2024 track by the Philadelphia rapper Skrilla, where the “6 7” lands as a chant. Basketball edit accounts got hold of it and set it over LaMelo Ball highlights, because LaMelo Ball is six foot seven, and that coincidence did more for the phrase than the song ever did. From there it dropped down the age brackets like a coin in one of those spiral wishing wells, moving faster and meaning less on every loop, until it reached middle schoolers as pure sound.
There’s a gesture that goes with it: both palms up, bouncing alternately, like a scale weighing two options. On its own the gesture reads as “eh, could go either way.” Attached to 6-7, it means that about nothing in particular. You are weighing two empty hands.
Usage rules, such as they are: you say it when a six or a seven shows up in the wild. Page 67 of the math book. A $6.70 total at the register. A jersey number. No response is expected except other people saying it back, slightly louder.
Teachers spent most of a school year trying to ban a number. Then Dictionary.com named 67 its 2025 word of the year, which by every previous law of the internet should have killed it on the spot, and somehow didn’t. It survived being explained by a dictionary. That’s how little there was to explain.
The only real rule is the one from our brainrot dictionary: do not ask what it means. The kids are not being rude, and they are not hiding anything. There is no inside to be inside of. Asking for the meaning is the one move that has a meaning, and the meaning is that you’re the unc now.
